Posted: Thu May 26, 2005 11:46 pm Post subject: [SOLVED] USB mouse - Logitech MX510 - not functional |
|
|
I just switch from a Dell Inspiron 8500 to a Dell Inspiron 6000. I had followed the instructions on this site: http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wfsection/article.php?articleid=46 and those on this site: http://pstudios.ath.cx/linhowtos/mx510.php. I see the dmesg output when the device is plugged in and "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" shows this:
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=046d Product=c01d Version=2100
N: Name="Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:1d.2-1/input0
H: Handlers=mouse1 event2
B: EV=17
B: KEY=ff0000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: REL=103
B: MSC=10
Here is what I have in my "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" for the mouse:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "evdev"
Option "Dev Name" "Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse"
Option "Dev Phys" "usb-0000:00:1d.2-1/input0"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/event3"
Option "Buttons" "10"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "9 10"
Option "Resolution" "800"
EndSection
I am wondering why I don't even get movement from the mouse. When I am booting, I have gpm starting and I get mouse movement there from both my USB mouse and my touchpad. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks. _________________ -RBJ1128

I had "mouse" as the driver before - as that is what I had on my Inspiron 8500 - but still nothing. I started "usbd" and I found the message "FATAL: Module mouse not found." I *think* that I have my kernel configured correctly for this. I am waiting on some file transfers to finish and I will reboot to see if your suggestion works. _________________ -RBJ1128 |

Yeah, that didn't work. X didn't throw any errors at me, but I still have no movement from my USB mouse. The light is on, but no activity. Clicking has no effect either. Any new ideas? _________________ -RBJ1128 |

# Uncomment this to cause a core dump at the spot where a signal is

What happens if you do "cat /dev/input/mice" and move the mouse? |

Hm. Weird...
The behaviour of your system is the expected one. Garbage spit out onto console when the device is catted while mouse moving. What mouse is that? And put an xorg start log somewhere where I can download an read it or such. |

I figured it out. In my xorg.conf there was an option for Core Pointer for my touchpad. Once I removed that option I had full use of my external mouse. _________________ -RBJ1128 |
