|
|
ive got a working Gentoo install, with Gnome, and everything is happy =P
except the scroll wheel and extra buttons on my MX700 mouse wont work... ive tried the HOWTO on mouse scrollwheels (my mouse is specifically mentioned!) and it just will not work. buttons 1, 2 and 3 are picked up by 'xev', the others are not. so.... im a bit stuck.
Relevant portion of xorg.conf:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" <--- ive also tried "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse0" <--- ive also tried /dev/input/mice
Option "Buttons" "7" # adding this enables the extra buttons on the MX700
Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7" # adding this maps wheel scrolling events to mouse buttons 6 & 7
EndSection
im told that for a PS/2 mouse i should use /dev/mouse, but even though my mouse *is* plugged into the PS/2 port, it doesnt exist/wont work. just to be perfectly clear, both k/b and mouse use one receiver, which has both USB and PS/2 plugs (PS/2 plug is green, for the mouse). both are plugged in.
anyone know what i need to do to get the wheel working? the multimedia buttons on the keyboard would be nice too but arent important. |

Here is a good website that will tell you everything. To get your buttons to work you have to use an xmod map.

add this one to the solved list. the problem was i had UHCI enabled in the kernel not OHCI. what i ended up doing was compiling *every* USB or mouse related thing i could as a module, after which "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" started telling me the right things and everything went smoothly after that. |
