|
|
Hello,
I have successfully set up squid, however, i have problems with native ftp Clients. FTP via browser works, but not using a dedicated ftp client. proxy has been made known to the clients, of course and ports etc. are correct.
Currently there is no authentication needed for accessing internet through squid, so it's transparent for the user (not the cient, of course)
Anyone run into similar problems ? Any ideas ?

Is the server you try to access capable of ftp over http?
squid only supports ftp over http, NOT native ftp, additionally you should use passive ftp not active. _________________ Nothing is secure / Security is always a trade-off with usability / Do not assume anything / Trust no-one, nothing / Paranoia is your friend / Think for yourself |

Tanks for your replies.
1) There are no error messages. The ftp client runs into a time out, while the browser works. The client responds with a time while contacting the remote server, but the timeout really occurs during contacting squid.
2) The remote ftp server is way beyond my reach, but most likely it does not. The problem seems to be the ftp client, which cannot talk http to squid to authenticate itself (or do whatever it feels to do). Most likely I will need an extra ftp proxy, as I have no chance to open the firewall directly for ftp.
I am quite a bit disappointed by squid, but then again, I am not capable of fixing this. Any suggestions for a free (speech) ftp proxy ? |

http://www.ftpproxy.org did the trick. I was not able to get frox to work as desired, even though it looked more promising. Thanks anyway |
