What would happen if I extracted a stage 3 tarball into my / on a currently installed Gentoo system, not from a LiveCD...
I know it sounds weird but I want to redo my system yet I don't want to insert a LiveCD for large complicated reasons. |

Every file in the tarball that you have modified would be overwritten by default; you can change this behaviour with tar options. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

If you have enough free space (>3GB, preferably more), consider creating a directory (or partition) in which to build the new system, chroot into that directory and do the installation in there. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved.
