this is my long thought sinse i started using gentoo.
I dont shutdown my box verymuch but when you shutdown -h now,
iu get like "system halted" "acpi down" then i need to press my power botton for several secs to actually shut the system.

how do I let gentoo shut my whole system down?
this must be common issue and must be answered somewhere in the forum but I just cant find the right keyword for this :(

thanks.:)

thx, but none of them worked.
shutdown -P now - gave me invalid option
poweroff - game me exact result same as shutdown -h now (and not shuting down the whole system)
halt - same as above

I'm using desktop with MSI motherboard, I guess I need to tweak somewhere?
(smallinfo: powering off whole system should work cause that BILL OS I had b4 were working, knoppix too )

Something in the kernel's ACPI or APM section is missing? Of course it also might be that the driver for power management for your mobo in linux kernel is buggy.

Probably it is what Flammie says that you didn't compile your kernel with APM or ACPI support.

Compile them and then you should emerge one of apmd or acpid.

Compiling the kernel using genkernel __usually__ helps this. If so, you can look at .config and see what's different.
