I installed the Firefox package on Gentoo 2005

I copied the libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt in /usr/lib/MozillaFirefox/plugins
I restart Firefox: flash doesn't work (behaviour same as without plugin)

I tried also " emerge netscape-flash", but it's exactly the same as before: no flash

I noticed that filesystem has mozilla, netscape, firfox directories and I suspect that this directory mess can be part of the problem, but I can't find what's actually wrong.

(My machine is not an AMD 64 but Sempron)

Any clue ?

Thanks

Thanks,

I copied all the plugin stuff in /opt/netscape/plugins
but, it's still inoperant.
Could you tell me how are set permissions on the nppdf.so file ?
I am tracking possible permission issues

Another question, in which menu can I see the installed plugin in Firefox ? Do you see the Flash one on your install ?

About the nppdf.so, I have no clue because I don't see it.
But, to view installed plugins, in firefox/mozilla type about:plugins in the address bar and press ENTER :)

Thanks for your help

I got that from my browser:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installed plug-ins
Find more information about browser plug-ins at Netscape.com.
Help for installing plug-ins is available from plugindoc.mozdev.org.
Shockwave Flash

File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 7.0 r25

MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes
Default Plugin

File name: libnullplugin.so
The default plugin handles plugin data for mimetypes and extensions that are not specified and facilitates downloading of new plugins.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it seems correctly installed, but I still get a grey rectangle on each flash content.
A friend told me that's may be coming from a missmatch between gcclibs used during Firefox build, and libraries that the plugin expects.
I checked the version and it is seems OK,
So, any clue ??

Thanks

I'm sorry if this is a hijack - I'm having the same problem, with the same readout from about:plugins, except it causes Firefox to quit whenever I try to view a page with Flash content. :(

it fixed it for me.

If it doesn't work for you, please let me know and I'll delete the irritating thread hijack, if that's what it's become.

Sorry.
