I used to have an LVM setup with 3 partitions in it:
/dev/sdb
/dev/hda1
/dev/sda6
I did a pvmove /dev/sda6 followed by a vgreduce storage /dev/sda6.
I did not do a pvremove on it.
I installed a root on /dev/sda6 and booted from it.
lvm has a problem finding a disk, altough it is clearly there:
pvdisplay:
pvdisplay

Allocatable yes (but full)

The first disk listed is /dev/hda1 altough it does not recongnise it as such.
pvscan

Altough it does report it as being in use...
lvmdiskscan

/dev/sdc1 [ 31.23 MB]

1 LVM physical volume whole disk
0 LVM physical volumes
but not as an LVM physical volume.
info using evms:
DosSegMgr: Warning: Using an alternate geometry (Cylinders, Heads, Sectors) for drive hda.
The kernel reported drive geometry is: C= 65535 H= 16 S= 63
The partition records report a geometry of: C= 65535 H= 255 S= 63
Using the alternate geometry reported by the partition records.
Some other info:
2.6.11-gentoo-r9
lvm version
LVM version: 2.01.09 (2005-04-04)
Library version: 1.01.01 (2005-03-29)
Driver version: 4.4.0
Strange thing is, if I reboot from my old root partition, running:
2.6.11-gentoo-r4
LVM version: 2.00.33 (2005-01-07)
Library version: 1.00.19-ioctl (2004-07-03)
Driver version: 4.4.0
it all works fine... |

I just upgraded to 2.01.09 and lost my vgs. After downgrading to 2.00.08 (last stable x86 version), everything was fine. I think 2.01.09 has a similar problem as 2.00.33-r1. This has been a problem for me more than once when upgrading lvm2. My reccomendation is to stick with a version that is stable for you.
This brings up another question for anyone out there: Do I need to rebuild me kernel after upgrading lvm2? |
