|
|
I've been reading the kernel cpufreq docs and googling but I can't find out if there's a way to set the cpu frequency governor by passing an argument to the kernel in grub.conf
Does anyone know if this is possible? I'd really like to have ondemand set as soon as my computer's powered on.
Any info would be appreciated |

I had that kinda problem and I've done what I seen in the forums I don't remember is one in special (long time ago)
just add this line to your /etc/conf.d/local.start
Quote: | echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor |
and run rc-update add local default
everytime it boots it will put the ondemand governor
just reboot and check it out ![Razz :P](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) _________________ Death is just another step to get into another plane of existence. |

Thanks. I kinda knew I could do it that way but was thinking it should be possible to tell the kernel earlier than that. It seems strange to me that in the kernel config you can only choose between performance and userspace for the default governors. |

I thought it was stupid too, but the ondemand governor is not a default for a very good reason.
If the ondemand governor fails to initialize (for whatever reason) the system does not boot.
As for my method of setting the governor: emerge cpufreq-utils and add 'cpufreq-set -g ondemand' to your local.start
Pretty much the same as above, FWIW. |
