I have a couple issues with enemy territory that i can't fix.
-I can only start it with thee command /usr/games/bin/et typing in just et doesn't do anything
-My alsa sound which works for xmms doesn't work in enemy territory
-whenever I enter a game I get kicked within a minute with the error PB init failure even though It says punk buster is enabled
Any help would be greatly appreciated

-This is most likely due to the fact that 'et' is not in your applcation search path. a) Try opening up a terminal, typing in something like enemy, press tab, and see what options you have for tab completion in terms of commands. The command for ET might actually be et.x86 (I think that was what it was the last time I checked).
-I think ET uses OSS, not ALSA so if you don't have OSS->ALSA enabled in your kernel or the relevant packaged emerged, you'll have errors with ET's sound.
-Punk buster doesn't work with OpenGL enabled cards the last time I checked. They were working on fixing that I think... |

Are you sure about all this? I've had it all working in the past I've just had probelmes recently after adding a frambuffer and splash to my bootscreen adn doing a kernel update and emerge world. the et.x86 didn't work. I think you might be right about the kernel config for alsa though. Asn I know that pnk buster should run because ive had enemy territy working before with punk buster. Imma try the kernel change and see if that makes any differences.
Also there is no entry under my xfce menu for enemy territory which i kind of find to be odd. |

Also, the important part is to make sure your user is in the "games" group. ET does indeed use OSS, so you'd have to have that or OSS emulation in ALSA. Even if you have that, you still need to make sure ALSA understands that et.x86 needs mmap():

and the next couple of entries after that. |

For the sound-problem, if you're running kde, try to kill artsd an then run the game!!!

thanks all as it turns out it was a user error on my part I had slighty mistyped my user name when i added it to the games group and audio group but it seems completely fixed now. |
