|
|
So I'm following along on the install guide like a good little boy and I get the part where I do this:
# chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
# env-update
Well, nothing has happened for the last 20 minutes. I followed the guide to the letter. Am I dead in the water?
Thanks in advance! |

env-update last no more than a few seconds in my Athlon. I believe it can last some minutes in older systems, but.... 20??????????????
Ctrl+C and try again. Hope it works. Weird problems. |

That is really strange. I'm not sure I would even believe 60 seconds on some older systems if this is something you are doing during the installation process. The computer shouldn't be doing anything else at the same time and 'env-update' isn't a heavy process. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Well, the system is a 1.4Ghz TBird. I left it for several hours when I went to dinner (mmm, sushi) and it was where I left if when I came back.
I'll try again tomorrow, thanks for the replys. |

...It souldnt last so much. I'd appreciate if you could emerge some sashimi for me - I'd sell my soul if i could eat sashimi everyday.
Well, try again tomorrow from the beginning. I had some problems with the tbz2 file, porbably caused by ibiblios slow-broken-resume-slow connection, I suggest you downloading it again from another mirror if the env-update insists keeping silent tomorrow. But wait tomorrow, maybe your computer is just on a bad mood today. And you shouldn wait so much to realize you got an error - if it does not work in 60 seconds, it dindt work.
I'd like to suggest the documentation writers to put in each step the average time it should last in an average machine so people can imagine if things are doing right or not. |

Just forgot that this system was slightly overclocked (ran Windows fine).
Would bumping the clock down to default speeds be a good idea? |
