Hey all, I just recently bought a new motherboard (Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo (Pro)) and I can't figure out which driver (if there is one that exists) that will work with the onboard audio. The manual says that this is a C-Media 9880 CODEC (UAJ)

Here is the lspci -v output:
Quote:

0000:00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corp. 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)
Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology: Unknown device a005
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
Memory at f3300000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable-
Capabilities: [70] #10 [0091]

I'm currently running gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9-r6. I've done just a little bit of research online for this chipset, but didn't come up with anything right off. I'm curious if any of you have this and have it working. If you do, please let me know what the trick is!

I just found out that this card is in alsa-drivers as azx. I'm currently trying to work around some weird oops problem, but hopefully this will allow me to use the card!

Dont you need the intel8x0 Alsa driver?
Did you try to add ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0" in make.conf like specified in :
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/fr/alsa-guide.xml

Can find more things at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/
Sorry if you already checked this out.

As far as I know your system has Intel audio system. C-Media should look something like this:

Code:
0000:00:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.: Unknown device 5900
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 128, IRQ 11
        I/O ports at dc00
Capabilities: [c0] Power Management version 2

Hi,
I also have that inboard soundcard :
0000:00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corp. 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.: Unknown device 813d
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
My MoBo is an Asus P5GD2-Deluxe.
Just get the version 1.0.7 of alsa (http://www.alsa-project.org/), compile it and load snd-azx. It works but I get a bad sound with some apps.
Could you tell me how it works for you ?

Thanks

The terrible sound your getting is from the Sound Module, it is still in early development buy some of the guys building ALSA, so yes, its crackly and the like...

For me, I am running dual boot, Winslut XP and Gn2, and I have to change output sockets for the audio to work for me

try the 0.9 ALSA driver and ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel"
I have the CMI9880L and that works well, but not with OSS emulation, so I can't use Skype, Wine, tvtime...

good luck

bye Serdar
