|
|
First a hello with my first post.
Now for what I wish to know :p
I have an ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard with an overclocked amd Athlon XP CPU running at 2314mhz (supposedly) and a Volcano 7+ cooler, and since the fan is quite loud I'd like to turn the speed of it down a bit, or set it to the supposedly automatic speed settings
in order to do that it would be good to know the cpu temperature (it does show in the bios)
I have emerged lm-sensors and am told that I have to turn on some options in the kernel but don't know which
some help please |

before turning on the options in your kernel you have to make sure that your bios displays the temperature information if not then even if you have lm-sensors and the kernel configured to read the temperature settings it will have nothing to read if the bios does not show this. the information it needs it gets from the bios.
you mentioned that you have a volcano 7 cpu cooler, this should have a temperature sensor that you can install so that the fan will either increase or decrease its speed depending on how hot the cpu gets... |

I did state that the temp shows in bios
so what exactly and how do I need to turn on?
and what for the sensor in the cooler itself? |

How do things work for a 2.4 kernel? I can find a lot of guides about the 2.6 kernel, but for the 2.4 kernel I still don't know which options I should select in the kernel before installing the I2C package (since a lot of stuff, like the I2C-ALGO-BIT DRIVER is also in there). For example, do I enable the 'I2C /proc interface (required for hardware sensors)' or does it come with I2C? The following text suggests I don't even need to enable 'I2C Support' (CONFIG_I2C): "What you need, is the original tree in which you compiled that 2.1.12 kernel.".
I hope someone can clear this up for me... |
