I installed the OS and everything was running perfectly fine. But when I select Gentoo in Grub. It starts to load it properly. But I get an error message that says:

Code:
>>Mounting filesystems
mount: Mounting devfs on /dev failed: No such devices
Error opening file: ".devfsd" No such file or directory
>>Determining root device...
>>Block device /dev/hda4 is not a valid root device...
>>The root block device is unspecified or not detected.
     Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for a shell...
boot()

This is the second time that I tried to install it and I got the same error the first time. What am I doing wrong. I am dual booting with Windows XP.

are you using udev? If yes then make sure that in your kernel config you didn't check "automatically mount at boot" in "/dev file system support

ERROR: Problem starting needed services
            "netmount" was not started.

This comes up before the login prompt. How do I rid myself of this message. Thank you
