after then installation, gentoo took up 3.4Gb. i did have some trouble emerging udev and genome. in both cases it got stuck in the middle and i had to emerge again. did it overwrite the files or make new files again leaving the old be?
is 3.6Gb HD space normal for the gentoo installation??

4GB is pretty normal. It probably includes the distfiles folder too. You can empty that (/usr/portage/distfiles by default) to regain half the roughly space. My install takes up 1,8GB without the distfiles folder. _________________ If someone solves a problem for you say thanks... and put [SOLVED] in the title! |

/var/tmp/portage is a folder you should clear out regularly as well.
i also suggest that you use a window environment like fluxbox. takes way less space _________________ John5788 |
