So I'm trying to compile a kernel for my Celeron box, but I'm not sure what I should specify as my processor type. I was wondering if you guys know of any ways of finding out whether my Celeron processor is pre-Coppermine, Coppermine, or P4-based. Also, what would happen if I specified the wrong processor type when compiling the kernel? |

Thank you for the replies.
Judging from the output of 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' (note its clock speed):
Code: | $ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 6
model name : Celeron (Mendocino)
stepping : 5
cpu MHz : 467.848
cache size : 128 KB

and the following article (its last paragraph specifically):

I'd say that my celeron is Pentium II based (pre-Coppermine). Does anyone know for a fact and can confirm this? |

The output of "cat /proc/cpuinfo" tells you you have a "Mendocino" core... that's the core used in Pentium and Celeron BEFORE the copermine was put on the market...
Your celeron is based on a Pre-Coppermine core. _________________ Dual P2-450 Server running from a Stage1 |
