Agreed.

I just installed the latest version of wine from portage and followed the instructions in the first post and everything just works fine. Sound inclusive ;)

Thanks to Darckness!

Just noticed something in the wiki, thats not correct. Should I change this myself?

Quote:
Installing Active X for the new Patchsystem
[...]
You will need these two dlls:

msvcp60.dll (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp60)
mfc42.dll (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mfc42)

note: The dlls from Windows XP won't work since they seem to be different. The link offered is only a suggestion. If you think you have a better source go for it.

I copied the dlls from my Windows XP SP2 Pro and they worked as expected.

My windows friends are bugging me to reinstall windows again so I can play but I am determined to get it working through linux and not have to reinstall windows ;)

Hi,

I have a problem with running wow under gentoo:
[img:dc865195f7]http://img32.echo.cx/img32/5600/error6hl.th.jpg[/img:dc865195f7]

I did everything in the tutorial except the wine patch. And I try to run it remote but also got the same error when I'm not remote. Any idee going to try the patch soon.

Grtz,

Okay I've got as far as trying to install WoW from the cd. Sadly wine gives me a dialog telling me:

"Sorry, the installer was unable to start up. You may be out of hard drive space."

Any ideas or is this likely to be a wine thing I need to look into?

PostPosted: Tue May 31, 2005 12:13 pm    Post subject: Misc problems with installing WoW Reply with quote

I tried first going with your guide, doing all the steps as you said. When i first time ran the CD, it said that my windows version isn't new enough (98 or better). I checked the winver in the ~/.wine/config and it was set to 98. I also tried all kinds of ready configs, but nothing helped. I had to remove the whole wine from my PC and reinstall it manually from the tar for the installer to work. Now I got it installed but running it with any of the commands I've found hasn't helped. When I ran it the 1st time it spewed the whole console full of error messages about soundsettings, the sounds were really really glitched and the application slowed all my other programs down, even hard to type and so on. Of course i couldn't even move the mouse inside WoW more than 1cm/5 secs. I got the sounds "fixed" by disabling them but still can't run the program.
I'd really appreciate any help about this subject.

Here's the messages I get when running it. My wine version is 20050524.

WyriHaximus
please try to start the game with
Code:
wine /opt/wow/WoW.exe -opengl

since DxD9 support is still a mess on whine. Somewhere above is a rough outline how to install the d3d9 Patches so that is works with the directxinterface ^^ If you like to try.

CitizenErased
Hmm. dhat does df say how much place you have where you like installing the stuff?

Cham
I bet you use the software emulation of Xorg.
please post the output of
Code:
opengl-update --get-implementatio

You have to run that command on the commandline as root.
And Post the Graphic card you use.
Will get it to run :D

Hmm. I do not know how you start programms remoted. Sorry. But lets see. You need a x client attached to the xserver over your network. This setting has a Display variable. Maybe you need to set the Display variable in order to tell wine where to send the picture.
Thats just what I think of how it coul be...
Can you try directly on the machine first. So we can rule out that the game buggs on another position.

CitizenErased
lol. that should be just enogh :D
Maybe your tmp is full? But I doubt this is a issue.
I tried the installer on my comp and it works.
Sorry no Idea atm :(

Np legine, thanks for your help so far.
It's definately something to do with the WoW installer as I am installing WC3 in Wine currently without a hitch :)

My graphics card is Sapphire Ati Radeon 9200 128Mt. I got the latest drivers installed.

Citizen, I also had the same problem today... I remember solving it by changing the virtual drive settings at ~/.wine/dosdevices
Namely, changed d: to point to "/mnt/cdrom" I'm not sure if it works for you though.

Hmm just to check something I did

Code:

rm -rf .wine
wine

Then ran the Installer.exe from /mnt/cdrom

Interestingly enough I actually got a proper graphical WoW screen telling me that I need a higher version of windows to run this.
However running wine did not create a config file for me in .wine to edit[/code]

I won :D
You are running the Software module from xorg.
What you need to do is to change to the ATI drivers. For that do
Code:
 opengl-update

You will see somewhere something like

    Notes:
    --impl-headers was default in <opengl-update-2.2.

This utility switches between OpenGL implementations. There are
    2 available implementations: nvidia xorg-x11

Note that I have Nvidia Card so there where I have nvidia you should have something ATI like.
use then
Code:
opengl-update nvidia

replace of course Nvidia with the name you saw in step 1 :)

hope that solves your Problem.

CitizenErased
Okey I when I tried it I got this too. You need to set the winversion in your config.
For that I recoment useing Winesetuptk and / or xwine.
Next time before you delete use mv. It keeps you out of trouble since you keep all the data. :D (We could have looked at your configfile and find out what the Problem was. You chouse now the more permanent solution :)
(Hmm, you could copy the default from another user... If you have any on the box :D)

Cheers
Legine

On *nix machines the use of space is not a that good Idea. You neet to tell the commandline that this is a real space.
so for you
chmod 777 "World of warcraft" -R
and
chown muppski:users "World of warcraft" -R
should do. :D
Of course you can rename the directory to whatever you like.
It should work then :)

Well I just typed that like that I know thats not the correct format
If i typed it wrong in the terminal I would get a :
chmod: cannot access `World': No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access `of': No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access `warcraft': No such file or directory

I renamed the dir anyway cuz I dont like spaces anyway.

I found the problem
I forgot chmod +x :D
