Hi

I have a 2.6.11 kernel and want to use a D-Link WLAN-Card with Atheros Chipset. Madwifi works perfectly for me, so I asked myself: Do I need pcmcia-cs? I emerged it, but didn't start it and when I inserted my card everything worked fine. I have pcmcia-support compiled statically in my kernel.

What are the disadvantages of this configuration? Does it make any sense to build pcmcia as modules in the kernel? What does pcmcia-cs does on startup?

many greetings
fabian
