|
|
reboot immediately from grub:
Code: | kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz
boot |
Screen flash to white, then black with underbar cursor visible, then to BIOS startup screen and Grub comes up (again).
This is a Sony PCG-719 notebook. Boot using Knoopix becuase Gentoo LiveCD can't boot. From Knoppix I setting up partitions and then 'chroot ... ' and the rest.
According to cpuinfo, it has a 'Mobile Pentium MMX'. So I choose the 'Pentium-M' processor type.
Where to look? _________________ ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><

afaik Mobile Pentium MMX != Pentium-m
try to recompile your kernel with Pentium-MMX as Processor family _________________ $ ruby -e'puts " .:@BFegiklnorst".unpack("x4ax7aaX6ax5aX15ax4aax6aaX7ax2aX5aX8 \

Yes, you are correct. I tried 'i586' last night and now it works! _________________ ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>< |

I'm having (what seems like) a very similar problem.
On boot, I get to the flashing underbar (which on my other system signifies that grub's loading) and then... nothing. The system just sits there with the bar flashing.
A similarity: I couldn't use the LiveCD either; my cd drive reads cd-r's very oddly; some work, and some don't. Hence, I installed using the "Alternate Install -> Knoppix" method from the docs page.
As to "cpuinfo", I don't seem to have this command but that said, I'm quite sure that I've set the Processor type right (P-III) |

cpuinfo isnt a command
in your case, try to disable acpi, apic or somewhat else (boot options : acpi=off , noapic ,...)
more informations in your : /usr/src/linux/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt _________________ $ ruby -e'puts " .:@BFegiklnorst".unpack("x4ax7aaX6ax5aX15ax4aax6aaX7ax2aX5aX8 \
