egroupware suddenly crapped out

egroupware was working fine for over a year, but after a reboot yesterday on our server, we get the following:


Warning: dl() [function.dl]: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20050922/mysql.so' - libmysqlclient.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/egroupware/phpgwapi/inc/class.egw_db.inc.php on line 260


when trying to open up egroupware through the browser.
Ive verified tha the file mysql.so DOES exist in the proper location.

What might we have done to bork this up?
I'm at a loss.

Maybe permissions? If you cant get to it you cant start it
