Hi!

Ive just merged openoffice with 'emerge openoffice'

It finishes without problems, the problem appers when im trying to start openoffice.

I get the following:

$ oowriter
running openoffice.org setup...
setup failed.. abort

What can the problem be, and what can be done to solve it :?:

Have you tried running the setup program? It looks like the first time you run any component of OO it tries to run the setup program first, but maybe you could try runing setup explicitly (from the K-menu perhaps)? OO has to create an OO folder in your home directory and set up various options before you can use any of the components.

OpenOffice runs /opt/OpenOffice<...>/setup initially. Unfortunately, on my system this is a broken link to /opt/OpenOffice<...>/program/setup, because there is no /opt/OpenOffice<..>/program directory. I suspect the same problem is the cause for everyone else with this complaint. Do ls -la /opt/OpenOffice*/ to see. If so and I find a solution I'll post back.

I remember having the same problem when I was trying to use OO.o with fluxbox, they then came up with a patch for fluxbox that fixed the problem.
What window manager are you guys using with openoffice ?
I'm emerging it right now so it won't be compiled until tomorrow heh...
I'll let you know by then if I'm affected as well.

I'm running only KDE 3.1 and was installing openoffice-bin 1.0.2. Maybe I'll compile it instead.

Yeah, the link exists, but you can run /usr/bin/oosetup direct (or even /usr/bin/ooffice, /usr/bin/oowriter, etc), and all come up with the same message: starting setup, aborting.... :?

After about three compiles I gave up and installed the 1.0.1 binary. It's working fine now! :(

I just checked all OO executables in /usr/bin. They're links to the script "/usr/bin/ooffice". One of the things this script does is try to run the setup if you are not already set up. It looks for "/opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.2/program/setup" but this does not exist. Under /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.2, there are 2 links to programs/setup and a directory (users). There is no "program" directory. Hopefully someone can get this fixed. Even on DSL, it's a long enough download and the compile takes a while even on an Athlon XP 1700 (didn't time it, just went to bed)

I was having problems as well.

I unmerged Openoffice and deleted everything having to do with it.

I then emerged openoffice-bin and ran ooffice. Then it ran setup and now openoffice seems to work. Unfortunately it is no longer in my gnome menu. How do I get openoffice to install launchers in my gnome menu?

Thx
