x.org config [because of out rage signal]

How to set screen resolution with both (H. & V. signal) to 1280x1024@75Hz or lower ?
I know that gentoo has that nice nofb command... is it possible to use it with GRUB ?
Secondly i need to set my desktop to 1280X1024 but th maximum i can put is 1152x864
