hello all

I will make this very short

lately I recompile my kernel with new change, but when trying the new kernel it does not work well

luckely, following the great explanation from gentoo install site, I have copies of the previous kernel bzimage and .config in my /boot directory so I am currently booting with a good version of my kernel.

my question is this :
what do I need to remove from the next compile that I will do, all the change that I did ?

is copying the old .config on the new one enough or should I run some command to clean the source of the kernel (some "make clean" ?)

thx

if you copy your old (working) config into /usr/src/linux/.config and recompile as normal it should be ok

If your old, working .config is from another kernel version than the one you are trying to (re)compile, copy it to $SRCDIR/.config and issue a "make oldconfig". This will resolve all incompatibilities between .config versions. It will prompt you for any new or undefined options the newer kernel needs, and drop unknown ones.

that 's it, I knew that there was some command to run, but in this case I am on the same kernel so I will just copy over my previous .config.
I'll keep under the arm the "make oldconfig"

is this oldconfig necessary if I move from a 2.6.11-gentoo-rx to rx+1 ?

Well, probably.

Can't hurt anyway.
