Installed Gnome 2.10, want to add Clearlooks theme and got an error megssage "Can not install theme. The bzip2 utility is not installed."
But bzip2 is installed and it's in the path, I may launch it from console. Please, give me a direction where to dig for solution. |

I just had the same problem.
Luckily for us a few other (braver) people trying out gnome 2.10 several months ago ran into the same problem, found the reason and gave a solution to the problem.
I searched the forums and found this post https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2182730.html#2182730 , quoted below.

Looks like the path to bzip2 is hardcoded in gnome-theme-installer.c. I filed a bug with gnome at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170058 and hope to submit a gentoo patch... just got to find some guidelines on the preferred diff format (universal? are there any guidelines out there?)

Oh well, hope diff -ur is okay. If you've been bitten too, here's the patch - though
Code: |
ln -s /bin/bzip2 /usr/bin/bzip2
|
will probably save you the recompile.
<scurries off to muck with clearlooks />

That's the way kynx! |
