|

Hello,
I just did "emerge --verbose --update world", since, upon logging on to gnome the applications menu is empty !
Does anyone know where those pesky little icons went ?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff |

Why don't you at least tell us the version of your gnome, it is difficult to reply based in assumptions. Upgrade you installation, there was a bug before some months, but I don't know if your version is that old. _________________ "Yep linux is an alternative. Sorry, updating world upgraded Gnome 2.8 to gnome 2.10, apparently.
I did an emerge sync just before updating, so i suppose all packages are of the latest version as in portage.
The last update I did must have been about a month ago.
The gnome panel is version 2.8.3 however.
(The applications menu is completely empty, it's not just the icons that are missing, it is every menu item). |

Ok, it seemed rather simple after all.
This thread : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-346988.html, seems to be the same problem.
The thing is that gnome 2.10 doesn't seem to be happy using a gnome 2.8 panel This didn't shock me to begin with, as I seem to recall that when under gnome 2.8 i had a few packages versionned 2.6.
I would have supposed that "emerge --verbose --update world" would have pulled essential dependances... however, upon checking the manual, it doesn't. Would it be advisable to use "emerge --verbose --update -- deep world" instead to avoid this sort of problem ? |

I made a new menu with Denu. It's not a real solution to the problem but you will get a nice menu again. _________________ Comix - GTK Comic Book Viewer [ http://comix.sourceforge.net ] |
