|
|
Hi.
I am having a bit of a problem.
I installed KDE3.4 the other day, and everything seemed to be working.
But then I was ripping a CD using kaudiocreator this morning, when my machine just rebooted. (Still don't know why exactly, nothing jumped out at me in the system logs.) So when the machine rebooted, I got the kde3.4 login screen, and I logged in.
Now, I can not rip CDs anymore. Or play them. audiocd gives this error: Code: | An error occurred while loading audiocd:/:
Could not read /dev/cdrom. |
I can't play DVDs either. Tho I can play the VOB files directly using mplayer.
Other apps just tell me this: Code: | CD-ROM read or access error (or no audio disc in drive).
Please make sure you have access permissions to:
/dev/cdrom |
I can read data CDs and DVDs just fine (CD=hdc, DVD=hdd). Both drives give the same error if I change devices (in kscd for example).
I've tried googling and searching and have not found an answer to this problem. Most audiocd problems arise from not have the cdparanoia flag set, or not installing kdemultimedia-kioslaves. Both of which I've done. I even recompiled the kioslaves.
Any other ideas here? Any further info that would help?
thanks,
john
p.s. I do have a bunch of these in an old log: Code: | Jun 9 12:52:38 [kernel] hdc: rw=0, want=716792, limit=514912
Jun 9 12:52:38 [kernel] Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 179197
Jun 9 12:52:39 [kernel] attempt to access beyond end of device |
But nothing in my current log. And those were with an audiocd in the drive. |

Can you burn from the commandline using cdrecord?
Have you tried k3b?
What are the permissions/groups on the cdrom device? cdrecord? |

That was it. Changed /dev/hdc to 666 and now kaudiocreator and audiocd work.
Even have the FLAC option back with audiocd.
No idea why/how those permissions changed tho. Maybe from the crash/reboot?
thanks,
