So I was having problem trying to compile xorg on 32bit with my old system. Upgraded the video card and still wasn't what I wanted so I returned it and then upgraded my system to this
RS480M2-IL
onboard xpress 200
ATI Chipset
3000 AMD 64Bit 512MB
Ok SO I put it in and try to boot into XP no deals safe mode no deals(alright whatever ill reinstall probably need to reinstall anyways)
SO I tried to boot into gentoo (Boots ok) working out a problem emerge xorg-x11, ok so I try again with new processor and it comipled without any errors... so im like YES almost about to give up on gentoo...
so now I upgraded to AMD 64bit do you think I should install gentoo 64, already did Windows x64 but having problems finding a driver that support 1600 1024
please tell me the benfits on doing this.....
or if there is linux drivers 64bit?

I have the exact same setup, but 2x the RAM, and if you get it in good working order somehow, please post your solutions.

You can emerge the ATI 8.13.3 driver. It's masked of course. But is working for me (3d accelleration finally!). Will happily provide more info if needed. |

Ok I cant seem to get past autodectect when I try to boot of the gentoo Live CD.... I see that it finds the SATA drive I have but just sits there on the autodect and if I hit ESC goes another line and then goes green and stays there
I tried the options such as gentoo -noacpi
Please I really want to get gentoo working.... |

don't put the '-' in front of noapic
just this "gentoo noapic" w/o the quotes.
that should get 'er started for ya. _________________ AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester Core @ 1.813 GHz

I couldn't remember how to mask the packages so that that driver version installed, so I direct-path installed it. Anyone else do something similar?
Why does this one work and not 8.14.13 or whatever that seems later? Does ATI just have a wierd numbering scheme or am I missing something?
TIA. _________________ AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester Core @ 1.813 GHz

onlybui,
I had the same problem with livecd-boot stalling on autodetect. It magically fixed itself one day and I wish I could tell you why. The only thing I can think of is that I did download and burn a new gentoo universal live-cd for amd64. I seem to recall a message somewhere indicating that the image on the mirrors was temporarily bad.
Also, I was able to get past the initial problem by passing a parameter at bootup- I think it was something like "nohotplug".

kiel.wells,
If I am not mistaken, this will unmask the correct driver for you...
echo "=media-video/ati-drivers-8.13.3 ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
Ignore the ati-drivers-extra. Not needed and not sure what it offers.
You do want v.8.13.3. It seems that ATI has two series of drivers- one for the run-of-the-mill ATI card, and another for our integrated video chip.

part of the problem with this board is that the same bug that affects APIC, IO-APIC, and LAPIC affects the USB and SATA stuff as well. They seem to be somewhat intertwined, from all i've read.
If you don't have a USB keyboard, try disabling USB at boot, along with noapic, and possibly nolapic.
here is a link to another thread dealing with this MB/chipset. it might help you out some. _________________ AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester Core @ 1.813 GHz
