Hi,

I have been having this problem since a long time. I have tested it with different KDE releases, but with no other window managers (I don't have them installed... maybe I could try TWM somehow...)

The issue is that if I select a mouse theme, it appears fine in the preview, but when I select it and restart X, some cursors are missing. I refer in particular to the resizing arrows. In the place of the icons from the theme I selected, the default cursors are used.

The text-icon and standard cursor work fine. The "busy" cursor or the "Hand" works fine in some apps (Mozilla Firefox) but not in others (the KDE desktop, any KDE app, ...).

This works for each and every mouse cursor theme that Gentoo installs by default. I have tried some themes from kde-look and it's the same. Only one theme I tried ("Celtic Preview") works fine.

Since I found one which worked fine (but I can't stand using it, it's too weird), I compared the directory structure of "Celtic Preview" with the non working themes and it has the same structure... it even has less files than the not-working themes. :-(
So I can't understand the problem.

I tried opening one of the cursors with Kuickshow, but it told me it couldn't open the file, probably my Imlib misses something. emerge -pv imlib says I'm fine (no USE, latest release, etc).

Any idea on what I could try or what issue could it be? :(

What happens when you go to /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11/default/index.theme and put;
Code:

[Icon Theme]
Inherits=gentoo
that is if you see gentoo in /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11.
You may need to select the same thing in kde, not sure I don't use it.

Thank you for your advice, but the only thing which happened is that the KDM login screen now uses the "gentoo" mouse theme. When I log in, I experience the same issues I had explained in the previous post. :-(

Do you know what program I can use to open the cursors (to see if maybe it's a missing lib or something like that?)

Did you find out why?

I have the same problem.
