OK then, I have a Linksys Wireless B USB Network Adaptor (WUSB11) v2.8, and first of all I wasn't able to get it recognised at any time by either the live CD or by any other means, then I installed some linux firmware for it, and now it is recognised as wlan0, however I don't know how to get it connected to the internet, I've tried:
iwconfig wlan0 channel 11 essid linksys mode ad-hoc
ifconfig wlan0 ip 192.168.1.102
However once I do this sometimes it says can't resolve network address, sometimes it thinks it's connected but when I try to ping 192.168.1.1 or any other PC on my network it says host unreachable, and when I try pinging something outside the network it can't do it either.

Does anyone know how to get this working, I have got it connected in Kanotix, using this firmware and using a couple of kanotix tools called wlcardconfig-kanotix and netcardconfig-kanotix, however I can't find these on the internet, and when I did they weren't the tools.

Seadog,

Hrmm, I don't think that metters anymore, I've changed the mode to managed and I can now connect to my network, however I can't access the internet, i.e I can ping 192.168.1.1 and get a reply but not google.com, any ideas?

Your router probably assigns you an ip address. Unless you have a special setup after connecting to the wap you should run dhcpcd wlan0 to get an ip address from the router. You should be able to connect to the internet after that.
