I recently installed Gnome 2.10, and I notice that in the Preferences for the clock, there is a "Synchronize clock with internet servers" checkbox. I check the box, select some servers, and click OK. I notice that this does start ntpd, but it never actually adjusts my clock. My clock slows down by about a minute every few days, and even if I manually set the clock to the right time before checking the "Synchronize..." box, it still gets out of sync.
It never seems to run ntp-client, though. From the point of view of an end-user, who knows nothing about ntpd or ntp-client, checking a box that says "sync my clock" should do just that, without any manual running of other random commands. But since Gnome is unfinished, I figure this might still require a manual running of ntp-client?
