Hi!

I've decided to give Xfce4 a try, after using Gnome for a very long time.

However, I can't seem to find a way to put icons on the desktop!

I've heard that you can use Rox File Manager for this, but I'm not sure how...
I've installed rox, but when I run it appears like a regular file manager, i.e. opens a single window containing a folder, but doesn't actually function as a desktop (for storing icons, etc.)

So,
1. Is there a way to get ROX to act like a normal desktop?
2. Does a "native" Xfce Desktop exist? If so, how can I Enable/use it? (Ideally, one that could interact with the Xfce file manager... which kind'a sucks, at first glance)

I didn't have much time to fiddle with this, so I apologize if my questions are trivial...

Any help would be appreciated.

probably the easiest way is to use idesk. it's great for all those light weight window managers that don't have native desktop icon support. emerge idesk. then lookie here for the basic config file and instructions with examples how to make the icons or check this out.

I don't know anything about rox, I thought it was just a file manager.

If you are using xfce4, you can just write a simple script, eg :
"rox-up"

Quote:
#! /bin/bash
#
rox --pinboard=PIN

And put it in ~/Desktop/Autostart/ .

You can also try another way. Open a ROX, and go to /usr/share/;
right-click the folder "ROX-Filer".
You may find that :

App dir 'ROX-Filer' --------> Enable pinboard.

Very easy?!
