|
|
Hi,
I'm experiencing strange problems with a gentoo server installation.
Whenever the system has quite some disk load, the clock skews alot (after 2 minutes, the clock is off about 30 seconds) and the network interface response time for pings goes down from about 10ms to about one second. Previously, we had preemtive support turned in the kernel on, which we disabled in order to hope that the problems go away (with preemptive support turned on, the box wasn't reachable via SSH or ping anymore when it had a load > 2 and quite some disk i/o).
The kernel is configured as follows (only the important sections):
Code: |

Has anybody got a clue where to start searching for the problem? |

What kind of IDE chipset do you have? Did you enable its support in the kernel?
Did you run hdparm -d1 on your hard disk?
I suggest to check if you have support for the right chipset in the kernel and then use hdparm to improve the transfer rate from/to your hard disk.
You might consider checking the following options hdparm -d1 -c3 -k1 -m16 -u1 |

Thanks, the Chipset support was missing! |
