Are there any cards that are actually pci-express? I don't mean videocards, I mean like sound or network adapters or anything else for that matter. Also I don't mean like 16x PCI express I mean like the 1x slots that also come on the motherboard.

I don't believe so, because no cards really need the PCI-e speed boost except video cards, and PCI-e is relitivly new. Also, all PCI-e cards have to work a 1x, so it doesn't matter whether they are "16x", they will work at 1x.

I'm not sure but i would assume there is some server hardware available, as some newer server boards come with two pci-x slots, and i don't see the point in putting a top-of the line graphics card in a server that probably won't even have a monitor connected. There could also be some compatebility with 64-bit pci as the slots are the same but i'm not certain of that.

I would think some gigabit+ cards would require pcie to be used at 100% also prably lots of raid controllers cause pcie has even more brandwidth than pcix. Wll , up to date i saw only one raid controller for pcie "Intel SRCU42E Dual-Channel U320 RAID-5" but i am sure there are others around.

PCI-e (PCI Express) Is a serial bus that uses PCI implimentation and design practices. PCI-x is a variant of normal PCI, but has a 133 MHz data rate (266 MHz in PCI-x 2.0) as opposed to the 66 MHz in PCI 2.2 or the 33 MHz in standerd PCI. The lesson, PCI-e is not the same as PCI-x.

I dont see anybody disagree with you about this fact in this thread.
You might also check http://www.intel.com/design/servers/RAID/srcu42e/ if you dont believe me.

lol, thank you for responding for me adaptr. Yes, I was explaining the difference because he said PCI-x and we were talking about PCI-e.
