Im not sure if this is in the right forum but im desperate for some help.
I have been running a gentoo system flawlessly for a few months now, then last night my HD with my gentoo install on went kapoot!!!
now all the files i keep on this server [all my work from the past 5 years] was on a LVM2 partition spread over two 160GB HD's. Needless to say i am desperate to get this data off the LVM2 discs.
My question is how can i go about this, i tried a Live CD [knoppix] and tried mounting the drives with no luck.
what is the quickest way for me to get the data off these drives as i need it Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!!!
[and yes i am aware i should of backed all this data up] |

If your hard disk failure is not on the drives with the data, i.e.:
hda - operating system (Gentoo!)
hdb - data
hdc - data
Then you may be able to boot off a Gentoo LiveCD, then mount and activate the volume group(s).
If your operating system and LVM2 are on the same drive, then someone with more knowledge than I will have to reply. |

Silly question, but did you remember to "vgscan" when you tried to mount from knoppix? Pardon me if I'm telling you things you already know, but you need to mount the /dev/vg/???? instead of /dev/hd?, and to get the /dev/vg/???? to appear, you need to vgscan, first. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |
