Hi,
I used to have a Gentoo box setup as a router/firewall for my local systems using DSL. I have recently moved and the new location has a existing router/network in place using DHCP and I will connect to the internet using DHCP.
I would like to be able to keep my Gentoo firewall running as I used to have it but instead of DSL I will need to use the DHCP connection as my "ISP".
The existing router and DHCP setup uses 192.168.0.XXX and I use 192.168.1.xxx for my local network. What I have done is basically change eth1 (WAN Side) of my Gentoo box to connect using DHCP instead of ADSL and left eth0 (local side) alone. This works for my Gentoo (firewall box) but not the machines connected to it via eth0. The boxes resolve the internet addresses correctly but just hang when trying to connect.
I would guess my routing is incomplete or incorrect but I am not sure what I need to do at the moment. I have not researched this much but figured I would try here for ideas and/or suggestions on how to do this correctly.
Thanks. _________________ "Well fine, go ahead and miss church, and when you die and go to hell you can answer to SATAN!"

do you have the right GW at your Clients?
do you route the traffic from eth0 2 eth1?
Maybe firewall is blocking eth0?
Just some ideas _________________ www.egocrew.de |

Thanks for the ideas.
1. Probaly not . I am using 192.168.1.2 (My Gentoo Firewall box eth0)
2. Eh..not sure. But I think so because that is how it used to work.
3. Using Shorewall and used "clear" command to turn off so I think I am OK there.
(EDIT)
Ok I turned off Shorewall which would also turn off NAT. My router cant route without NAT so I am guessing this might be the issue, I will have to check when I get home. Sorry for the stupid questions if this it _________________ "Well fine, go ahead and miss church, and when you die and go to hell you can answer to SATAN!"
