Could anyone please explain this to me?:
Code:

$ time wine Opera.exe
real    0m4.144s
user    0m1.526s
sys     0m0.405s

Code:
$ time opera

real    0m3.546s
user    0m1.663s
sys     0m0.223s

Maybe I'm booting an emulated Gentoo?:twisted:

Of course this is one of those :wink: posts;) but would be good if someone could nicely say how come opera under wine is faster?

Code:
1.526+0.405
=> 1.931

1.663+0.223
=> 1.886

So wine spents more system time (which I would think is a bad thing) and more total time (user+sys), so how is it under wine faster than natively?

Also, please remember:
WINE Is Not an Emulator, so there's not really any reason to expect WINE to be slow.

Probably the reason for this is that you don't have the same plugins in the windows firefox than in linux... Or something else... I can't believe it ;)

Everything I post here is true. I encourage you do try the same - install wine+FF and check starting times. I couldn't believe it neither, but it's how it is,... sadly.

'Windows-ppl' claim that FF under Linux feels slower than the same version and exactly the same set of additional plugins for Windows. Initially, I failed to believe that, but when I saw wine starting FF so fast I must admit what they're saying is a damn truth....

What I'm refering to all the time are starting times (second, third and so on), I'm not taking into account the general feeling of speed (you know, clicking on links, opening tabs, scrolling).

I dare think it's not only opera and FF which are significally faster emulated...
