|
|
Ok i've been using Gentoo Linux since November '04 and I've really got fed up with windows so I'm building a brand new system designed for linux gaming. I was wondering which graphics card in linux offers the best performance with maximum compatability/stability? Dosn't matter how expensive the card is, money is no option, this is gaming we're talking about
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. _________________ skoby

I have a 6600 and it is fantastic. Would have liked a 6800, but my mobo is old with only x4AGP and didnt see the point in shelling out an extra £150 for the 6800 when I would not be able to expreience it in fullness!!!
major upgrade though sometime nx year, by then even better nvidia cards _________________

6800ultra 256mb is the best card for Gentoo without any doubt. Add another one in SLI mode if you have support for it and it will get even better. |

I have a GeForce FX5900 and although not the latest and greatest, no problems with any game out there right now with high quality including games under Cedega too. |

Naib, one thing you either didn't know or forgot, the 6800 GT/Ultra doesn't support 4x AGP, only 8x (at least not mine). |

I have a 6600GT myself and even though you say money is no object I'm not sure that the 6800 is worth the large increase in price (the AGP version is very expensive compared to the 6600). I love my 6600GT anyway. _________________ Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, trapping you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come. |

My 6800 was 299.99 @ best buy when they first came out. I upgraded it from a ATI 9200, and that was a huge jump. _________________ System Specs:
