Network problem during installation (broadcast?)

Hello I have some problems when I try to connect to internet during the install of Gentoo 2005.0 minimal edition.
I'm pretty sure it finds both of my network cards (anyway the one I see is eth1 so probably it find the other one). I use fixed ip's with my router. I do net-setup and answers the questions properly the only thing I'm not sure about is the broadcast??? I've heard the word but i have no clue wtf it is.

Any ideas?????

I have got it to work with broadcast 255.255.255.255 I must have the router address as gateway
iface_eth0="192.168.1.96 broadcast 192.168.1.255 netmask 255.255.255.0"
gateway="eth0/192.168.1.254"

Probably your gateway will be 192.168.1.255 .
