It looks like you can't cannect to your X server.
Check your DISPLAY environment variable.

To use a graphical environment, a program needs to know where the X server resides.
This is done through the DISPLAY environment variable.
To see if it is the problem, try starting other x programs (like xterm, xeyes or xclock). If it works, the problem is elsewhere.
Check the DISPLAY value with "echo $DISPLAY". If it doesn't give any output, you should probably set it to ':0' (ie: type "export DISPLAY=:0").
Be sure that you are allowed to connect to the X server : issue a 'xhost +localhost' from within your graphical environment.
