i have been looking at some resources to try to install linux on my pda, but it seems like it's still not possible (familiar distribtution seems the way to go), and I was wondering if it would be possible to install gentoo on them
at the moment it's not possible, so this post is just a "it would be great to..".. anyway the problem is not of the distribution itself but of the need of an adapted kernel & drivers :/
it is really a pity the handhelds manufacturers like hp, dell, casio and the rest don't put efforts on developing linux into the pda's.. _________________ gentoo sex is updatedb; locate; talk; date; cd; strip; look; touch; finger; unzip; uptime; gawk; head; emerge --oneshot condom; mount; fsck; gasp; more; yes; yes; yes; more; umount; emerge -C condom; make clean; sleep |

=>linux kernel boots on the axim 30
but....there is a lot of work to do...

theses pda are now very fast...
(mabe you can compile on them)
they just needs a lot of space... |

In #gentoo-embedded currently me and yvasilev are working on an portage-overlay for the zaurus-PDAs, including the ebuilds for existing embedded apps.
This work can be used for most other PDAs, the differences are not very big.
But first kernel and drivers must work for the PDA, so as long as no other distribution supports the PDA, you won't have much luck with gentoo.
(as long as you are no kernel developer, but if you are, you can help much) _________________ Just unused Microsoft-Software is good Microsoft-Software |

so you are saying that if you have a running linuk kernel on a device it can run opie...
wow i have a qtopia device but with a lot of different hardware (omap1510)
but why there are a lot of userspace programs that have display problems such as doom?
is there a little work to do on apps or is it because gentoo is a source os that it will work in order to build compatible ipk with the cross compiling desktop? |
