Hey.
I've been using GNOME for awhile, and while at heart I am still an FVWM2 kind of guy, it's been growing on me a bit.
One thing that I'm trying to figure out is how I can get GNOME to use my .Xdefaults file. From reading manpages, etc. I have found that having the XENVIRONMENT variable set should tell programs launching in X where to read in resources. So if I launch emacs from the Terminal, for instance, it comes up with the foreground and background colors I chose. However, if I launch it from the Applications menu I get the standard set up.
Now, ignoring the fact that there should be a better way to configure emacs ;), how can I get GNOME to set this environment variable? I am setting it in ${HOME}/.bashrc which is sourced every time a shell starts, but it doesn't seem to be working. Is there somewhere else that one sets X resources for GNOME? I know that they are trying to move away from this kind of thing, but it'd be nice to at least be able to support it.
Thanks. _________________ The name that can be named is not the eternal name. |
