I just installed and configured 2.6.12-ck2 (I had to add patches for vesa-tng and fbsplash, FYI).

It works fine on my work machine with Nvidia.

But for some reason on my laptop at home, when I choose reboot computer from KDE, the machine gets vertical garbage on the screen and locks hard. I have to hold the power button for six seconds to power off. Once I reboot its fine again until I have to reboot...

To see if I could get more clues, I switched to Terminal 1 and logged in as root. Then I /etc/init.d/xdm stop to kill kdm.

It stopped just fine, then I issued a "reboot" command.

The machine rebooted just fine...

So there's some interaction with KDM or X or something else and the 2.6.12-ck2 kernel...

I scanned the appropriate threads in here, but wading through 150 posts is time consuming... Sorry to start a new thread, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I'd love to keep the ck sources going, they're just so smoooooth.

I was running gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r11 previously and had no problems...

* x11-base/xorg-x11

(with patches for fbsplash and vesa-tng)

My laptop has been up for over four days. How often do you have lockups with 2.6.12-ck2?

Code:
server ~ # uptime
 09:20:39 up 4 days, 17:50,  2 users,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

If its a kernel issue, I may have to try love or dark or something...

Anyone have any reccomendations for a good & speedy kernel for a Dell P4M laptop?
