Hi
I'm installing Gentoo on an HP Visualize workstation (785/C3600). It's bootstrapping, so I'm trying to do some homework
It seems that X.org has no support for the built in FXe (or /2/4/6) type graphics cards
(according to http://wiki.parisc-linux.org/KnownIssues)
I guess I'm just asking for a second opinion or some hope here:
is there anything known about recent/future developments on this part, or possibly a hack or similar to use e.g. a binary HP-UX X driver
Or am I better of just sticking with HP-UX for now?
TIA, _________________ Cheers

The Visualize FX family is most likely not going to be supported by X in the near future.
As the support for HP-UX binaries is very limited you will most probably have no success in running the X server from HP-UX or even use the HP X driver under XOrg.
As you have read, there is not very much documentation available from HP to write a new driver, however if you succeed in disassembling the HP driver and write a new driver from these informations.... well, I do not believe in anyone being that masochistic.
You have three possibilities for using X on this machine
1) get your hands on a Visualize-EG card as these are at least supported as 8bit framebuffer devices
2) use some other PCI graphics card, hints can be found here
3) use HP-UX |
