|
|
Hi,
Im having trouble when I get to this stage of installation in my sparc64 install in my ultra5 machine
following std sparc install manual instructions I get to:
emerge sparc-sources
File"/usr/bin/emerge", line 2951
if (("--pretend" In myopts) and not ("--fetchonly" in myopts or "--fetch-all-uri" in myopts)) or ("--ask" in myopts):
.........................^ [dots just to put arrow in right place]
SyntaxError: Invalid syntax
also, I beleive the first time I tried to run 'emerge sparc-sources' it had MD5 errors in a file....
...second time running it went a a few lines through with no problem then came up file was corrupt (may have been main gentoo-sparc64.tar.bz2 file?)
and to try -tvv to verify contents or ??bziprestore?? to recover non corrupted portions of file?
....third run it came up with this line # error
I even re-burned the CD *slowly* to make sure was sweet but still giving error # 3 now
Thanks in advance

Does anyone have any ideas?
I have done everything 'exactly' as laid out in installation handbook
The error says:
syntax error - does this mean I need to find the error in the emerge file?
Ive looked at the line in question but it looks ok
PLEASE HELP
Thanks in advance

Are you using hdparm to set parameters for the hdd/cdrom?
Are there any kernel messages ("dmesg") at the end when this happens?
The IDE chipsets in the ultra 5, ultra 10, blade 100 and blade 150 are buggy and can cause trouble in many situations using DMA.
If you're not just try booting like "gentoo-2.4 ide=nodma" to see if it helps. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

What version of portage is that? If your message really reads ' if (("--pretend" In myopts) and ...' then that is a problem, if course, because that ln needs to be in. If that is what you have, and you didn't just copy it wrong, I suppose you could correct it by hand and continue, but I don't see how such a problem could occur. If you really are seeing it, you probably should follow up with gustavoz's thoughts as well.
Hope this helps, but it probably doesn't,
Regards, |

Thanks guys,
gust4voz: no, I didnt set any special HD params AFAIK, only what the handbook said to do.
will try booting with nodma
ferris: latest version of portage? yes, that was typed "exactly"as displayed. and my first thought was , hmm syntax error, ill go fix it. but when I find that line in the 'emerge' file, it is written as 'in' with lowercase 'i'
thanks
