I like your work, and am not flaming, sorry you think that.

If you weren't flaming, what exactly was the comment 'does the size of your spoiler make the car go faster' aim to achieve?

Incidentally, spoilers do help cars go faster by improving grip at high speeds and hence allowing control of cars at high speeds. If they didn't, do you think Formula 1 cars would bother to include them?

Read this:

selected 4K stacks.

Make sure your config reflects what Tiger683 shows it needs to reflect.

Thanks for the quick reply vipernicus.

I did read that part in the first post, but I don't realy understand it.
Quote:

__selected__ CRYPTO_DEFLATE

Is this an entry that I should manually insert in the config-file before I can see the reiser4 entry in the configmenu?

Never mind. I FOUND IT!! Got a bit confused by the syntax of that sentence. I'm gonna try it now...

Hey , Phlogiston,
it was my comment ;)

nevertheless, exactly what we need, maybe someone makes the r1 of lirc with this applied,
when gentoo-sources go 2.6.13 at latest.

cheers

Kernel works so far.
I didn't get ALSA working but that's just a config error I think.
ATI DRM still doesn't work... :(

I hope I've more time tomorrow to fix the config errors...

More problems:

ndiswrapper (in portage) fails to compile (but CVS works)
nvidia won't load because of some PCI things:

Code:

PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:20000@f0000000 for 0000:01:00.0
<rest of loading sequence up until an attempt to load the nvidia module is made>
PCI: Device 0000:01:00.0 not available because of resource collisions
NVRM: pci_enable_device failed, aborting
nvidia: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -1
NVRM: The NVIDIA probe routine failed for 1 device(s).
NVRM: None of the NVIDIA graphics adapters were initialized!

This isn't looking pretty. I might be sticking with 2.6.12-gentoo-r1.

nvidia works here.. no problems with that, but zaptel seems to have the same problems as lirc.. :-(
btw, I couldn't get lirc to work... not even with the patches....

It was a friendly joke. In my town there is a group of 16 year old ricers, with primer paint jobs, loud mufflers, and huge 24 inch spoilers. One of them pulled up beside me at a red light, and started revving. I raced him in a standard factory accord ex, and left him in my dust. We happened to pull over to get gas at the same station one day, and I asked him: "Does the size of your spoiler really make your car go faster?", for him to reply: "No, it just keeps the back end of my car from flying up into the air at high speeds." I thought it was funny, so I try to use it everywhere I hear or see the word rice. I know nitro used to poke a little fun at ricing. So I made a little joke of my own about it. It was innocent, and I did not expect the offensiveness that I received, I'm sorry, and will never make another joke in a nitro related thread again.

Hmmph. after a bit more playing on more systems, nvidia works on my desktop system w/ a GeForce FX 5900, but the problems with PCI happen on my new laptop with an nvidia GeForce FX Go5700 (but it still works with gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r1).

Poohey. I was hoping this kernel would work for all of my systems, guess the laptop has to be happy with gentoo-sources for now.

[ E D I T ]
Just noticed that there's a new version of the nvidia driver out - 7667. Going to try that to see if it helps.

Greate Kernel, Frambuf work, alsa work, reiser4 work, nvidia work, cfq is great !
There is no need in devfs. Kill it for nitro2. Its depricated for all next releases anyway.
Greate work Tiger, dont listen anybody, keep your kernel on top!

Ok Tiger, I did some more testing with my PCI problem and it only happens in Nitro, not in mm1/2. So something broke it, I don't know what, but it's only on the hardware that my laptop has. So.. I don't know really what I can provide that would help that much :-/

PostPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2005 10:19 pm    Post subject: l7-filter problem Reply with quote

I've been using 2.6.11-nitro2 for some time - best kernel I think I've ever used. A while back I patched it with l7-filter out of portage to do some packet shaping - works really well btw. Well when I came to do the same with this version the patch went off alright, but the module build itself failed complaining about a missing lockhelp.h file. So I tried
Code:

cp /usr/src/linux-2.6.11-nitro2/include/linux/netfilter_ipv4/lockhelp.h /usr/src/linux-2.6.12-nitro1/include/linux/netfilter_ipv4/
make modules modules_install
modprobe ipt_layer7

and everything seemed to be working for a little while :? And then all of the sudden it just died, so I took the file back out and re-built everything without the patch for now.

What happened to that file, I see it in the stock 2.6.12 sources, but not the nitro ones?

Also any chance you could put incorporate these into the nitro patch set? They're quit handy for limiting things like bittorrent and whatnot.

Thanks.

XioXouS: You are unlucky too, the header file got removed in -git4, so this change will also be in 2.6.13 Vanilla.

Though, no clue where the prototypes went...

Legoguy: Nvidia also works fine here,
I think its something specific with your hardware, and dont forget
nvidia is currently removing legacy-card support in recent drivers.

Tiger683: So am I waiting then for l7-filter and alsa to be updated and patched for this new kernel version so that they don't go looking for that header file or devfs?

This is a GeForce FX Go5700, hardly 'legacy' ;)

I also tested 2.6.12-git9 - works perfect there too. So they either fixed it between git4 and git9, or nitro/ck is causing the problem..

what about ati-drivers?
If I reboot to the brand new nitro release and startup xorg, I get a only a black screen and a mouse corner blinking at the top left corner.
I have upgraded from 2.6.11-nitro2

Tell ATI to fix their drivers....

[EDIT:]

OK, that was a little rough.... I'll try to patch ati drivers to make them load without errors, the
rest will have to be tested.....

[/EDIT]

The ATI Drivers work for me, only DRM doesn't... I can't build the modul.
