This is just a thought. Maybe a forum just for "What is your favorite ???? app?" threads. This would help newbies who don't know the names of programs or which ones are good, to pick and choose from which ones are recommended. I know there are a lot of these floating around gentoo chat, but they might be better on their own, and at least more likely to be found by beginners. It would also isolate flame wars and reduce the number of times those threads get put in the support forums. To keep it more organized, all the threads would be started by moderators (and a lot just moved around from other places). Updates could also be added from gentoo-stats about who is using what. Then any time a someone starts a debate on which program is better than another in a support forums, moderators can kick it over there or close that thread. _________________ What Larry was saying is that if you make it too easy for programmers, then poor programmers will be able to do things best left to good programmers, and will inevitably do them poorly.
