after xfce4 installation start x doesn't work anymore

i installed gentoo yesterday. emerged x11 and it worked fine except that it didn't detect the mouse. but i could do startx. i emerged xfce4 and now can't start X anymore. get this message:

(EE) No device detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.X.Org
for help.
Please also checkt the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for
additional information.

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.



can anyone help or give advice on what to do?

Have you tryed to start xfce4 by typing:

startxfce4

This does not sound like an Xfce4 problem. It sounds like somehow you messed up xorg. Anyways, if you could post the entire error message and perhaps you xorg.conf, rc.conf and .xinitrc (if you use one) would really help.
