microphone doesn't work!

Hi I am a newbie here. Recently I install gentoo 1.4 on my dell inspiron 8200 laptop which is an intel 810 audio. everything is fine except that microphone. I install kde 3.1 and enable alsa. i can play mp3 files and see movie in xine. but i can not use krecord records my sound or use gnomemeeting to talk with my friend. i believe my mic works under windoze before i install gentoo. is there any possible reason? i already check the alsamixer and it let me choose use mic1 or mic2, i try both and neither works. under is my lsmod info.

Arts needs to be set to full-duplex mode for krecord to work. Have you checked that? I've never used gnomemeeting but if it can use arts then that could be the problem there also. Arts will not suspend when it is set to full-duplex so you probably don't want to leave it that way when you don't need it.

my stupid error. i set the volume of mic but do not enable it by setting capture on. i assume it is unmuted when set to non zero value.

Happens to all of us. I recently spent several hours trying to figure out why mencoder wouldn't record sound for that same reason. :oops:
