|
|
Hey,
When I try to install Gentoo, everything is smooth sailing up the this point:
Code: | # tar -xvjf /mnt/gentoo/portage-<Yes, I replace this with the correct date>.tar.bz2 -C /mnt/gentoo/usr |
then I get an erroro along the lines of, "Error: /usr No such file or directory".
I've went back through the handbook and made sure I did everything, and I'm pretty sure I did. Everything goes fine up until the above line of code.
??
Thanks,

I take it you are referring to step 5.d. Installing Portage of the Gentoo 2005.0 x86 handbook?
The /mnt/gentoo/usr directory should have been created by either step 5.b. Default: Using a Stage from the Installation CD or 5.c. Alternative: Using a Stage from the Internet. Which one did you follow? _________________ Boomslanger

Thanks for responding. Yes, I'm at chapter 5.d in the x86 handbook, and I'm using the "Using a stage from the internet" method.

Thanks,

Did you extract the Gentoo stage tarball before trying to extract the portage snapshot?
If you did, when you do
you should see several dirs including usr. _________________ Jorge.

It sounds like something didn't extract right from the stage*.tar.bz2 file. I would download it again, and re-run the tar -xvjpf stage*.tar.bz2 command. Then take a look at /mnt/gentoo, and you should see the /usr dir. |
