Hi!
I'm running Gentoo on a PowerMac G4 and use KDE 3.3.2, waiting for KDE 3.4.1 to become stable (btw does anybody have an idea when it might be..?). I have some unstable packages
Quote:
www-client/opera ~ppc
media-sound/amarok ~ppc
media-video/kmplayer ~ppc
media-video/kaffeine ~ppc
x11-themes/baghira ~ppc
sys-apps/ivman ~ppc
x11-misc/superkaramba ~ppc
media-gfx/opcion ~ppc

which until now have never interfered with KDE which I prefer to use only in stable versions (especially because all single slot installations of the whole KDE use a lot of disk space). When I run emerge today I got this output:
Quote:
Aemilia bjosch # emerge -p --update --deep --newuse world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] sys-libs/lib-compat-1.4
[ebuild N ] dev-java/ibm-jdk-bin-1.4.2
[ebuild R ] sys-libs/db-4.2.52_p2
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/man-1.6 [1.5p]
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/arts-3.4.1-r1
[ebuild R ] net-dns/libidn-0.5.13
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdelibs-3.4.1-r1
[ebuild N ] dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.20
[ebuild R ] dev-lang/swig-1.3.21

[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdebase-3.4.1-r1
[ebuild U ] net-misc/curl-7.13.2 [7.13.1]
[ebuild R ] net-libs/gecko-sdk-1.7.5
[ebuild R ] kde-base/kdebase-3.3.2-r1
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.4.1-r1
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdegraphics-3.4.1
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdetoys-3.4.1
[ebuild N ] dev-perl/Net-SSLeay-1.25
[ebuild N ] dev-perl/IO-Socket-SSL-0.96
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdenetwork-3.4.1
[ebuild R ] mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird-1.0.2
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdepim-3.4.1-r1
[ebuild N ] kde-base/kdegames-3.4.1
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdeaddons-3.4.1
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdeadmin-3.4.1
[ebuild R ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.0.4
[ebuild R ] app-office/openoffice-1.1.4-r1
[ebuild NS ] kde-base/kdeutils-3.4.1

As I found in the online package database all kde packages => 3.4.1 are marked unstable. Why does portage want to install them?? Also firefox, thunderbird, openoffice want to be re-installed,why? After the last changes of USE-flags in my make.conf I have run emerge yet, and so everything should be updated.

I'm also eagerly waiting for the later kde versions to be marked as stable. Actually I've been running unstable kde-3.4.0 (on x86) for a couple of weeks without major problems. But today the latest ebuilds for e.g. kdemultimedia (3.4.1-r1) are marked as stable for amd64, x86 and ppc in the online package database, which I suspect is just a mistake that soon will be corrected.

I advice you to wait for a couple of hours and then check the online package database or to do an emerge sync and check if portage still want's to install the latest kde ebuilds.

Indeed, now it's all marked stable online. I just wonder why it wants to recompile some other packages. But nice that the last kde finally is stable again.
