I have the sound working just fine on my box, but for some reason I have to use alsamixer if I wish to adjust the volume. I can't do it from, say XMMS or any other applications, which aggravates me to no end.
I tried the following:
Quote: |
# amixer set Master 100 unmute
Unable to find simple control 'Master',0
# amixer set PCM 100 unmute
Unable to find simple control 'PCM',0
|
There's no soundcard per se so I thought that might be the reason. Apparently it's built into the motherboard.
Quote: |
# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfdff8000 irq 16
|
The second problem is that although I do have sound and can adjust it from alsamixer, it's not exactly outrageously loud by any standard. The volume is pleasant enough, but on my laptop I was able to melt the walls down and I really miss that.
Any suggestions for what it takes to blast my eardrums out from an application? _________________ "Thinking gives you wrinkles!"

Are you using KDE? It sounds to me your problem may be that you aren't actually using ALSA. Perhaps you have KDE and are using arts? If so, go into KDE control center, and uncheck Enable Soundsystem. |

Nah, I'm a fluxbox-man all the way. Good call, though. I'd say that alsa is used given that my kernel modules are as follows:

Besides, alsamixer works just fine. It's just that I can't control the volume from anywhere else - that's what puzzles me. _________________ "Thinking gives you wrinkles!"

Never mind, it's an XMMS issue. Tried Gmplayer and it worked like a charm. Doh! _________________ "Thinking gives you wrinkles!"
